L' I.T.I.S. Magistri Cumacini è una delle più grandi e delle più qualificanti scuole superiori a Como (circa 1200 studenti).

L'istituto è situato nella periferia della città in una area verde chiamata Lazzago nei pressi dell’autostrada Como–Chiasso, facile da raggiungere anche in treno (la stazione è solo cinque minuti a piedi dalla scuola).

L' ITIS Magistri Cumacini offre due anni di corso per completare l’educazione di base e, successivamente, dà la possibilità con il triennio di specializzazione di scegliere fra i quattro corsi di studio disponibili: Informatica, Elettrotecnica, Edilizia e Meccanica.

Ogni corso prevede 36 ore settimanali, molte delle quali in laboratorio.

All’interno dell’Istituto sono presenti una biblioteca, un auditorium, un laboratorio multimediale, diversi laboratori dove è possibile fare esperienza e due palestre.

Una volta conseguito il diploma, è possibile cercare lavoro come tecnico qualificato (perito) o continuare gli studi in ambito universitario.

Le lezioni iniziano alle 8.15 e terminano alle 13.10; due volte a settimana si svolgono tre ore di lezione pomeridiane.

In ambito scolastico vengono svolte un numero considerevole di attività extra-curriculari: incontri di pallacanestro, calcio e pallavolo, conferenze di filosofia, economia e statistica, corsi di certificazione di inglese e altre attività su richiesta degli studenti.

Prendere parte alle olimpiadi dei giochi matematici e a quelle di Informatica è diventata una tradizione tra i nostri studenti, alcuni dei quali si sono classificati a livello nazionale.

Parlando di facilitazioni dobbiamo menzionare la mensa della scuola (comprensiva di bar) dove è possibile pranzare ad un ottimo prezzo.

With an average of one thousand students a year ITIS Magistri Cumacini is one of the largest and most qualified secondary schools in Como. It is situated on the outskirts of Como by the highway Como - Chiasso in a green area called Lazzago. The school is easy to reach even by train (it takes only 5 minutes on foot from the railway station to school).

ITIS Magistri Cumacini has two-year courses to complete base education and a further three-year professionalizing courses where students can choose among four available specializations: Computer sciences, Electrotechnics, Building and Mechanics. Every course consists of 36 lessons a week, many of which in laboratories.

The school has a library, an auditorium, a multimedia lab, a language lab, three gyms and several other laboratories where students can perform experiments. Enquiries and school-family relationships are supported by on line computer services which allow the management and logging of:

  • Delays and absences
  • marks
  • parents - teachers’ appointments

The school, which is certified iso 9001, has a close relationship with the territory and its economic situation. It organizes summer in-house trainings for students of the third and fourth year.
With the contribution of institutions a monitoring of the curricula was started in 2007-2008 so that curricula can better meet work expectations. In order to reach a top level education both satisfying for students, families, work and universities it is necessary and useful to take into account with companies, institutions and professional organizations’ advice.
To better evaluate teaching methodology former students who are now attending university or working are periodically contacted. In September, before the beginning of lessons, the school also organizes maths courses for first year students while taking care of foreign students’ integration. A two- year basic course followed by a three-year specialization course make up the school curriculum
Besides the traditional two-year course students can decide to enrol in a two-year English-Spanish or English German basic course to study two foreign languages; students can also choose two-year basic courses where they will be trained to get the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence).
Students can also prepare for motorcycle driving licence examination and for European Languages Certifications. Students can choose their three-year course among four specializations: Computer sciences, Electrotechnics, Building and Mechanics. Every course prepares students for university too giving them a top level professional profile in each area.

The electrical engineer plans, executes and maintains electrical systems, electric machines, automated equipment; the mechanical engineer looks after mechanical manufacturing (machining), takes care of heating systems management and of fluid mechanics; the information technologist designs and manages information processing, transmission and acquisition systems; the building surveyor studies and designs details in building plans, he makes estimates and organizes building sites. In the three year-specialization courses students study Maths, English, Italian, History, Religious Education and Physical Education in addition to specialization subjects.
Lab activities help students develop their technical skills; there they can create simple applications.
Lessons start at 8.15 and finish at 13.00; twice a week there are three hours afternoon lessons.

A great number of extracurricular activities, such as: basketball, football, volleyball, lectures on different topics, European Certification courses, CAD 2 and university entry test preparations are organized on students’ demand. Taking part in Olympics Maths Games is a tradition. Among other facilities we can mention the school canteen.
